Friday Night at the Movies

Berkeley Friends Church “Friday Night at the Movies” is a monthly film screening presenting family-friendly  movies that reflect issues and values of interest to area Friends. From the uplifting to the thought-provoking,from documentaries and independent films to Hollywood productions, come and  enjoy refreshments, movies and discussion in our home-made home theater.

Wadjda  (2012, Directed by Haifaa Al-Mansour, Not Rated, 98 min.)

An enterprising Saudi girl signs on for her school’s Koran recitation competition as a way to raise the remaining funds she needs in order to buy the green bicycle she has her heart set on.

This inspirational story was the first film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia, the first feature-length film by a Saudi Arabian female director, and the country’s first official submission to the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.
